ANZ Netball: Flash & full stack development

Brief

As part of ANZ's sponsorship of Netball Australia, we were tasked with building interactive online elements and games to celebrate the sponsorship and promote Netball.

Context

Between 2008-2010 I was working Rodeo, a digital agency in South Melbourne. One of our clients was Renault Australia. The account allowed us to build some awesome promotions and a truly unique online presence.

I worked on this site when I was still full time at Rodeo, a digital agency in South Melbourne. The site was built with a number of other developers who worked on various front-end aspects.

ANZ Netball

Showcasing ANZ’s sponsorship of Netball, the site acts a as a portal to all things Netball, featuring Australian team information and player profiles, the site also incorporates a DB driven roundup/fixtures section, as well as a live round by round summary.

We also developed a scratch and win promotion which linked directly with a live competition component on the website. Users were able to instant win prizes depending on their scratch and win code, and the entry mechanism and required DB I also developed.

Solution

I was lead developer on this, my role was to make the Flash front-end dynamic by making use of AMFPHP classes. These were powered by custom PHP services that allowed the Flash front-end to grab data from a MySQL DB, as well as insert entries for competitions and other mechanisms.

The Flash games that ran on the site are also powered by AMFPHP, they use Flash remoting for the high-score leader-boards and gameplay analytics.
