Full Stack Freelance with ElevenMedia

Brief

Build custom plugins, front-end themes and back-end solution for a boutique digital agency in Melbourne's south east.

Context

I met Aaron Rutley through a mutual acquaintance after I left my role as Digital Team Lead at Rodeo. At that time, I was mostly freelancing through MacDux at various ad agencies around Melbourne doing more web development work for various ad campaigns.

Aaron mentioned that his studio focused on custom WordPress based sites and that they could use a hand and so I started first by doing a bit of JS and jQuery work as I got more familiar with the WordPress ecosystem.

Eventually, this would lead into building more custom or complex functionality for customers that needed additional features out of their WordPress sites.

Most of my development work during this time was on the back-end side of WordPress, building custom plugins or integrations for custom themes.

I mostly worked with PHP and jQuery around this time as it was still early days on a lot of the JS frameworks that are now popular.

All up, I probably worked on about 40-50 different client projects over the span of close to 2 years freelancing with the guys at Eleven. It was awesome to get more into such varied work that always had excellent designs thanks to the handy work of Blaz Robar, but on the downside I was mostly stuck in the WordPress ecosystem during this time and would not get to do more custom PHP or JS work until later.
