Target: Front-end development
2010
Brief
Build the new front-end templates for shop.target.com.au as part of freelance work with Sapient Nitro.
Context
I did some work with Sapient-Nitro around this time and one of the projects I was assisting them with was the new front-end for the Target Australia online store. The front-end development was handled by myself and another in-house developer.
Solution
This was a tricky front-end HTML/CSS and jQuery build.
We used SVN to work on the website as GIT still wasn't as widely used then. Due to the scale of the project a CSS compiler (LESS) was used to create more object orientated and reusable CSS.
The site featured many layered PNG graphics and thus required a fair bit of attention in regards to cross browser compatibility and dreaded IE fixes. Given the amount of jQuery for all UI elements, the front-end testing was also time consuming.
It was a great pleasure working on this site and I learned a few nifty HTML tricks (LESS, Sliding Doors buttons etc) whilst developing the project.
