Melbourne Geek: Development & writing

Brief

Rebrand and rebuild melbournegeek.com into a modern tech blog with reviews on gadgets, media, technology, and events.

Context

MelbourneGeek, 2012

Back in 2011, I was freelancing for ElevenMedia in Melbourne and met with Josh Jansen, the owner and writer for MelbourneGeek. We got to talking about it partnered up on a rebuild with the intention of makaing MelbourneGeek a full fledged publishing platform and brand in the tech space.

Solution

The site was redesigned by Blaz Robar, who was a partner and design lead at ElevenMedia at the time and I built the site and handled all the DevOps.

It was a lot of fun to both be building and writing/creating content for the site and we ended up creating a stack of content including some really polished YouTube reviews.

Blaz designed a really killer front-end that had many different kinds of content blocks for more intersting layouts:

We grew the site and ended up with a small team of writers and contributors.

I stepped away from MelbourneGeek when our first child was born, but it was great fun and an awesome learning experience building and maintaining the site, as well as writing and creating content.
