Netball Australia: Maintenance & devops

Brief

Maintain the Netball Australia multi-site suite. This included DevOps and monitoring of the core site and it's multi-site tenants.

Context

In 2016 I had started consulting and freelance work for studios that developed e-commerce and digital marketing solutions. One of these was Creative Approach, a digital marketing agency in Melbourne.

Netball Australia was a client of theirs that required some maintenance of their existing multi-site platform. This included the main organisiations website as well as all the Australian state sub sites.

Solution

Firstly, I audited all the dependencies and plugins that the existing platform was using and optimised this as much as possible to make maintenance simpler. I also implemented a backup solution for the multi-site tenants. After this, I setup uptime monitoring and completed scheduled upgrades and spot checks.

It was a great introduction to a larger scale suite of sites that had legacy code and content to see where I could optimise, improve and generally clean things up while also making sure that all sites remained steady and up.
